"I had been dealing with pain in both elbows for over 2 years. I had surgery on my right elbow and did not want surgery for my left elbow because of how much downtime and recovery.I tried PT with another group and I had no results in over a year. After researching other facilities, I found Back in Motion. I learned that they offered dry-needling, and I thought to myself if that does not work then I will have no choice but to have surgery. After a few months at Back in Motion I no longer have any pain and I feel like a new man!"Read more

I broke my leg sliding into the base in baseball. I had to sit out of all the summer activities this summer and had to sit out of football too! I couldn't ride my skateboard or even run. The hardest part was not running though. Because of Back in Motion I can ride my skateboard and run, which is my favorite thing to do! My favorite part about coming to Back in Motion was making new friends!Read more

I am a 71 year-old woman who has had several health issues in the past year and needed therapy. Just before Thanksgiving I had a spinal release on my lower back. I started therapy 2 weeks after my surgery and I was released today. My recovery has been long and difficult. The therapists at the Dexter office have helped so much. About 3 weeks ago I was ready to give up, and they wouldn't let me! They provided me with a home program and with what I was doing at the office I have made a great recovery. They made me do the difficult things to bring about progress in my recovery. I have gained flexibility and strength that I thought was lost forever. As I get older, there are some limitations that I need to accept, however our bodies have the ability to heal. At the Dexter brand of Back in Motion, they encourage you to reach goals that you may think are impossible.Thank you to all who helped with my recovery. If you think things will not improve, take heart because my therapist can help you reach higher than you can imagine! Thank you ALL!Read more

Softball has always been a huge part of my life. It was one of the few outlets I had; a place to escape and forget about all of the stress and just play. When I injured my shoulder and was unable to throw a ball without being in excruciating pain, I was devastated. Fortunately though, I work for an amazing physical therapy company... Back in Motion! I'm not going to lie, I was a little hesitant to start PT because I was convinced that surgery was the only thing that would fix my shoulder. I trusted my coworker and PT, and began a treatment plan of physical therapy. When I started, I had very limited range of motion and barely any strength in my effected arm. At first, it was hard, it was frustrating at times, and it was a slow process. But once I started to see results I became more and more optimistic. My therapist was patient with me, reassured me that there was an end in sight, and constantly went above and beyond to make sure that I was able to make a full recovery. Weeks later, I tried throwing a softball again, and did so with NO PAIN. I cannot even describe the happiness and the smile that was on my face after that first throw! My goal was to be able to get back into playing competitively, and my therapist made sure that would happen for me. I recently just finished my softball season where my team competed in Nationals in Connecticut, and finished in 9th place out of 37 teams at the World Series tournament in Florida.I was able to avoid surgery AND get back to playing softball. I couldn't be happier!Read more

When I arrived at Back in Motion, I was on crutches, (non-weight bearing) and had negative flexion on my foot associated with my injured ankle. I was recovering from a trimalleolar fracture and surgery where a plate and pin were used to aid stability. I am now back on the stairmaster, climbing and ascending stairs, able to walk for over 30 minutes at a stretch, and having more and more success on my balance exercises. Life is good!Read more

At this time, I am pain-free. This is due to the concern and skill of everyone who worked with me. coming here has been a most positive experience. When I started, I was very worried about my situation but was soon relieved because of the in-house help I received and by doing exercises at home. I want to especially praise my Physical Therapist. Not only was she physically skilled in manipulating my neck, but was terrific at explaining what she was doing and why she was doing it. I am totally pleased with my experience here. I would be willing to write a letter of recommendation for any of the staff including the "check-staff". Thank you for helping me!Read more

"I came to PT scared that I might not get to play my instruments again, something that has brought me joy for years. The first couple of weeks I still couldn't play without pain. I was worried I might never be able to, but I realized as time went on I was making small improvements. Months later, I can play my instruments, no pain and lots of joy. I cannot thank PT enough.”Read more

"My job as a location sound recordist requires me to cantilever the boom mic overhead with recording gear strapped to my torso, sometimes for hours on end.At age 50, it’s taken a toll on my body. When my teenage son had a sports-related injury and got a positive outcome with Ted Greeley and the team at Back in Motion on Brighton Ave in Portland, I realized it was time to try physical therapy with someone I knew could deliver results. Ted crafted individualized treatment plans and exercises for both me and my son, targeting each problem with an appropriate regimen to get us back on track quickly and safely. I was mortified at the results of some of Ted’s baseline range-of-motion tests, but he assured me that improvement was on the horizon. Sure enough, improvement followed and my pain subsided, thanks to Ted and the whole team at Back in Motion.Imagine my surprise to learn that I don’t have to live with pain to keep my job!" “I had let my back issues progress for too long a time thinking that it was temporary and due in part to leg surgery of 2 years ago which prevented me from walking correctly, finding a comfortable position and standing while performing music on guitar. My therapist was able to identify back issues and how it was connected to former surgery issues. Slow progress did everything possible to get the muscles back under control to help me progress as well as giving me appropriate exercises should discomfort reoccur. Helping me understand the diagnoses of my back pain made my experience more positive. My therapist made sure that my input was heard. Totally a positive experience and I’m playing guitar again with no pain.”Read more

“I have had chronic neck pain with arthritis and bone spurs for several years and right shoulder pain from arthritis and an impingement for two years. Both are significantly improved. I, at times, have no pain and when I do experience pain it is probably a 2-3 level vs 4-5. I am also sleeping better.” Read more

“I came to Mike at Back in Motion for dry needling/PT because of hamstring tightness that tends to creep up a couple times a year. I’ve been to Mike for this two separate times now, and in a short couple of weeks with four dry needling sessions, things are feeling back to normal and last me months. Mike is very intuitive and can pinpoint most of what is going on and what needs fixing. After our last sequence of sessions in the fall, I hiked mount Washington. During that hike I never worried about feeling, or felt, discomfort in my hamstring. I always leave there feeling well taken care of and better then when I came in.”Read more

"On November 9th, my two boys and I were driving to an event. We were stopped in traffic when a lady completely wasn't paying attention and slammed into the back of my vehicle. The impact lifted my vehicle up and tore out the spare tire off from under the vehicle. My son who was sitting in the back seat and I were hurt. My neck and my son's back were sore and needed some attention. We scheduled appointments at Back in Motion in Gorham. Once there the staff was courteous and were sincerely concerned for our well-being. My Physical Therapist Tristan walked me through his plan to address both the pain and strength exercises. Each visit was a truly enjoyable experience. The physical therapist worked on areas of tightness, while Chance and Marla worked with us on strengthening the areas of concern. The environment was welcoming and those who worked with us seemed genuinely concerned and gave full attention. The office, from front to back, was filled with true professionals. I highly recommend the facility, and would recommend it to anyone. In the end, I have better range of motion now, than even before the accident. I also have the tools to keep strengthening. Thank you."Read more

In June of 2016, I was pitching in a men's league [baseball] game at Colby College. It was the 3rd inning and I threw a pitch. The next thing I knew I felt a zing all the up my arm and the pain was unbearable. I was waiting for the pain to subside, but it didn't. I went on to see a few difference doctors, had a couple MRls and several x rays. It was determined that my ulnar nerve was out of the groove and had to be surgicallyrepaired with an ulnar nerve reconstruction.I met Ryan Martin 15 years ago while he was at Springfield College studyingphysical therapy. So after my surgery, it was a no brainer who I wanted to get physical therapy from. Ryan was very professional. He understood my injury and listened towhat I was telling him. After each visit, I could feel the progress that was being made. There came a time where I knew I would be 100°/o long before I originally expected. My surgery was in July of 2017. On Thanksgiving morning of that same year, I was already throwing off a mound again. The road to recovery was very smooth and I have Ryan Martin and his staff to thank for that. Without hesitation, I would recommend Back in Motion to anyone who needs physical therapy."Read more

"My phone call to Back in Motion was one of desperation, as the leg pain I felt was not going away, making it hurt to walk and go about my daily life. Having had this pain years ago and being told by specialists who had done x-rays and an MRI that they could not find any reason for my pain. Much closer to age 40 now and having recently run a 5K race with my boys, I knew there was a trigger for my pain but nonetheless, I felt hopeless. Nothing I did was making it better (medication, ice, heat, rest, stretching). If anything, it was making it worse. At the time, my husband was seeing a therapist at Back in Motion for knee pain and having success so I figured I would give it a try.I had all of my test results and medical files sent to Ryan. It was evident that he had taken the time to review them, as he could cite specific results of each test. He didn't claim to know what was going on right away, but I felt comfort in knowing that he was going to do all he could to figure it out. Slowly, through working with Ryan and the PT staff here, my pain minimized and eventually went away. I have been pain-free since! And I take comfort in knowing that I have the tools to deal with this pain if it ever returns. I thank Ryan and all of the staff here at Back in Motion for their positive support!"Read more

"I would arrive at Back In Motion in a wheelchair holding my prosthetic leg. In the beginning I thought I would not walk again and get back to normal activities and things I liked to do. I thought I would not use my tractor, work in my shop or drive a car. With the help and professional support from Mike and Andy I am able to walk without a walker or cane, climb stairs, walk outside, work in my shop and drive my tractor. I am in the process of getting my Maine License to drive again with my prosthetic leg. The whole team at Back in Motion treated me with respect, compassion and smiles. Mike and Andy did an outstanding job giving me my life back. Their expertise and support was more than I could ever have asked for. I can't express how thankful and appreciative I am to have met such a great team of individuals."Read more

"While in training for the 2017 Spartan Race at Fenway, I hyper-extended my shoulder.I gave it about 2 weeks before I called Back in Motion. I was now a month out from the event and my hopes of participating were fading. Back in Motion accommodated my busy schedule and got me in the same day I picked up the phone. Mike Moras performed the assessment and immediately began hands-on therapy to decrease the pain and restore movement in the shoulder area. He ran me through a battery of exercises to regain joint stability. After a month’s worth of this regiment, I noticed an improvement in range of motion and strength. I regained enough function and confidence that I was able to partake and complete the Spartan Race.Thank you Back in Motion Physical Therapy!"Read more

"About 20 years ago "something happened to my neck" and the neurosurgeon told me "you have a ruptured disc that needs to be removed (which was done) and you should know that you have two more discs that will give you problems before you get out of this world". I am now "on the down hill side of 65" (and still have the two discs) but I still like to be fairly active. I continue to work 5 days a week (mostly sitting at a computer) but I also like time in the yard, woodworking, snowshoeing, hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. Not long ago my neck started bothering me and I thought "oh maybe I can't avoid the next disc any longer". But I got tied in with Back in Motion Physical Therapy at their Gorham facilities and what a difference a few months made. The staff was professional and very knowledgeable but equally important to me they were fun to spend time with. Over a couple months of working with them on site and doing what they told me do back home my neck has "come back around". I been "raking snow" this winter, and in fact I am currently making plans to take a five day canoe trip down the Allagash River in June. I would highly recommend Back in Motion Physical Therapy!"Read more
